Life often takes unexpected turns, and for Heidi, a Spring 2022 Tech-Moms alum, that turn led her from delivering mail to delivering tech solutions as a Product Owner. Her inspiring journey is one of resilience, determination, and a commitment to continuous growth.
Before discovering Tech-Moms, Heidi worked as a mail carrier in Sandy, UT. As a single mom, the long hours and unpredictable schedule made finding childcare nearly impossible. She realized that mail delivery was becoming outdated and knew she needed a career shift—but the path forward wasn’t clear.
Determined to enter the tech industry, Heidi started taking coding classes and landed an entry-level CS position at a tech company. However, she still felt lost about what direction to take next. That’s when she heard about Tech-Moms through Entrata, where the program had hosted an event. After researching, she knew Tech-Moms was exactly what she needed to gain clarity and direction.
Enrolling in Tech-Moms was a turning point for Heidi. During her time in the program, she was promoted to a manager position, which gave her more independence and the space to reflect on her career goals. Through the program, she gained insight into various tech roles and discovered her passion for Product Management.
Tech-Moms equipped her with the knowledge to pursue her dreams, leading her to earn a Product Owner certification. Along the way, she fell in love with Agile methodologies, setting the stage for the next chapter in her career.
The beginning of 2024 was one of the most uncertain job markets Heidi had ever faced, with massive tech layoffs making her job search daunting. She interviewed for multiple roles without success, but persistence paid off when a Product Owner position finally opened up.
The most incredible part? The company she joined was on her old mail route! Heidi instantly recognized the suite number from her time delivering mail years ago. To make the moment even more special, the current mail carrier on that route was her former karate instructor, a mentor who had guided her through some of her hardest times.
“Does this count as starting in the mail room?” Heidi joked about her surreal full-circle moment.
Heidi’s journey isn’t just about career transformation—she’s a powerhouse in her personal life too!
She earned her black belt in karate, a practice that reinforced her discipline and perseverance.
She completed multiple half marathons, one full marathon, and a half Ironman in July 2024, with her sights set on a full Ironman next!
She and her fiancé own a sailboat, learning to sail together and naming the boat after their blended family.
She firmly believes that mindset is everything and is passionate about helping others achieve their goals.
Heidi’s story is proof that intentionality, resilience, and a supportive community can change lives. From navigating career uncertainty to embracing new challenges head-on, she embodies what it means to take control of your future.
